Removable Wheelchair Motor

Removable Wheelchair Motor
Dec-09-11
The WHILL temporary electric drive prototype can attach to any manual wheelchair, creating a long distance alternative for wheelchair users.

The WHILL resembles a pair of headphones, with two circular hubs connected by a curved section. Each hub contains a 24-volt motor powered by a lithium-ion battery with a range of almost 20 miles. When attached to the center of the wheelchair's wheels, the device is able to propel the wheelchair at speeds up to 12 mph.

Steering is controlled by leaning in the direction of desired travel, which causes the control sensor to change the rotational force of the wheels.
